Groovy Baby

I am so, so, so, SO in love with this dress.

Ignore my blanket/ messy clothes/ awesome painted heart I did in the corner because I was bored/my weird positions
Hair clips: dollar store
Dress: Etsy (gift from 'rents)
Tights: Walmart
Shoes: Pleaser

It is so amazing and flower child-y and makes me feel like I should be the 4th Brady Bunch sister (even though I don't have blonde hair or curls or anything...)

IT.IS.THE.BEST.THING.EVER.

I was going for a late '60s/early '70s look, like I really am a lost Brady sister/'70s high school girl who wears flowers in her hair and obsesses over David Cassidy (actually accurate description of me).

The detailing on this dress is ANOTHER PERFECT REASON TO LOVE IT. Look at the flowers!!

I also did really rad '60s/'70s make-up with light blues and light peachy pinks. THAT'S RIGHT, I DITCHED THE CAT EYE. It was painful for mama, but I SURVIVED. All the make-up here is really old, crappy dollar store stuff that isn't even worth mentioning (I'm cheap and poor and never throw anything away).

ONCE AGAIN, THESE SHOES FOREVERRRR.

Nail polish: Wet 'n' Wild
Rings: "LOVE" one from Forever 21, other one from when I was like 7 (THESE RINGS SO RULE)

I did SWEET ~COSMIC~ NAIL ART with super duper gorgeous moons! My thumb looks super amazing and exactly how I wanted it to, whereas most of the rest kind of look like weird sort of circles with little dots in the middle. It also continued my '70s/cosmic theme I was going for!
I didn't decorate my right hand, which I'm gonna say is because I'm too cool for that, but it's actually because I can't do any kind of decent nail art on my right hand.

LOOK AT THESE GORG pictures I took today! The sky was amazing and I was internally freaking out because IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL and so perfect!

I am now also super obsessed with Gun Club, AKA THE BEST THING EVER (I couldn't find a good picture of them, which is SO SAD). Their music is like the epitome of perfectness! I'M CRAZY OBSESSED! "She's Like Heroin To Me" is my favorite song right now and GAH IT'S AMAZING LISTEN TO IT, GUYSSSSSSS!

I've wanted to blog a whole bunch these past few days, but I didn't know about what. I've been feeling super ~*!ARTISTICALLY!*~ inspired these past few days, but not super inspired in most other stuff, which includes ye olde blorg. DON'T WORRY, THOUGH, BABES, I am back from the tiny blog break I took, and I have LOTS LINED UP 4 U <3 <3 <3

ready to go to sleep now

WELL, HEY.
I am officially, royally EXHAUSTED.
This weekend, I had to perform the play I was in everyday... while I was SICK. I now feel really icky and so tired and I think all I can do is watch Golden Girls and fall asleep with a half eaten potato chip in my mouth.

Shirt that you can't see but that I'm crediting anyways: thrifted
Sunglasses: from a random shop
Cardigan: thrifted
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt (from when I was like, 11)
Shoes: Pleaser

ANYWAYS, this outfit is from a few weeks ago. I don't think I will ever get over Girl Gang ~vibez~, and this was totally inspired by the Man-Eaters, plus casual '50s/'60s babes. I was going to a dress rehearsal, so I couldn't give myself pretty teased hair (SADNESS). I have become 100% INFATUATED with my PRETTY 'LIL WHITE PLEASER SHOES, and I actually wore them so much that my heel started to bleed and I couldn't wear them for a few days. *insert major epic TEARZ :'(*

THESE GLASSES FOREVER, GUYS.

Awesome and weird chicken brooch: Great-grandmother's
Shawl: thrifted
Tie-dye t-shirt which is pretty much no longer tie-dyed: diy'd
Corduroy pants: Gloria Vanderbilt
Shoes: Pleaser

All these pictures my brother took turned out weird and fuzzy, but I kind of like the effect. Anyways, I was ~totally~ going for a '70s look, and I can never find a ton of things to go with the shawl, but everything came together and totally WORKED for me.

I tried to do a '70s kind of look, which was basically brown eyeliner and lots of mascara. It actually looked pretty RAD, but the lighting in these pictures SUCKS. Ohhh, well, what can you do?

I ALSO GOT MY BANGS TRIMMED!!!! (exclamation points for excited affect)
The first day they looked so BITCHIN' I almost DIIIIIED. This picture (that I took at like, 2 AM (I was lookin' too good to go to bed)) is a pretty accurate presentation of how KEWT they are.

This was me trying to capture how styyyylin' my bangs were DURING MY PLAY'S HIGH SCHOOL PREVIEW (i almost had a heart attack on stage, IT WAS SCARY, OKKKKK?)
I was not supposed to be taking pictures during costume changes, but I LOOKED SO GOOD. Gawd, I'm adorbs.

UGH PRETTY MAKE-UP STATIONS. Totally #dreamdressingroom, guys.

OH, AND I DID MY NAILS. I filed them to a point and painted them deep red (IT LOOKS PINK HERE, IT'S NOT OKAY??), and the only true way to describe them is $uPa H@wT nAiLz. I think I will eternally do this so that I cAn GeT AlL dE BoYz<3333

Since I am now done with my play *more tears*, I way more time to WRITE and CREATE. I am actually trying to get all the e-mails/Tumblr messages/things rad babes send me ANSWERED and DELIVERED to your doorsteps (E-mail steps? Tumblr steps? YOU GUYS GET WHAT I'M SAYING).

Your Band Could Be My Life

Helllllllloooo, babes!

Here are some of my current MUSICAL favorites that I've been listening and re-listening to. I've added some newer stuff (Melanie!) and my old favorites (JANIS! THE UNDERTONES!).

Enjoy! <3
1. Janis Ian
Janis Ian is effing incredible.
She is amazing.
She is perfect.
Her music is lovely and folky and makes me CRY. She's quiet and loud and a mixture of all things great this world has. She captures my beautiful FEELS I have!
Basically, Janis was a '60s TEEN folk singer and later regular folk singer who got her stardom through "Society's Child" (personal favorite song), which is about an interracial romance and all the people who condemn the couple for it. She wrote it herself when she was 14, and it was banned on certain radio stations.  She was 14 when she wrote it! IN 1965! It was so taboo and different and people were shocked, as they were with the rest of her record (her writing is raw and real and beautiful). In addition to being controversial singer, she has also written some of the best music ever, and it's got so many teen girl/human emotions and sometimes I just BREAK DOWN when listening to her.
When I occasionally feel totally shitty and UNLOVED (like when you feel so awkward and like no one likes you), I'll listen to "At Seventeen" and feel like EVERYTHING WILL BE DIFFERENT SOME DAY AND I'LL BE FAMOUS AND YOU'LL ALL BE PEASANTS, BAHAHAHA! (just kidding) (not really) SHE'S JUST SO AWESOME, GUYS!
I've never actually met anyone who even knows about her, unless they're talking about Janis Ian from Mean Girls or something.
Listen to her and fall in love with her genius!
DO IT NOW, I SAY!

2. Shannon and the Clams
OHEMGEE.
I CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE SHANNON AND THE CLAMS, GUYS!
Shannon and the Clams sound like a 1960s prom band on drugs AND I LOVE IT. Their music is all loud and lo-fi and all about being bad and rad. And, Shannon Shaw, the lead singer, (from Hunx and His Punx, duh) is my new spirit goddess. I LOVE YOU, BABY. And,  since generally everyone I worship/listen to is playing casinos or dead, so when I find a REAL, ALIVE band that doesn't sound like the Biebs (sorry, Biebs) I'M SO HAPPY! DOUBLE HECK YEAHS! They make me feel like I should rat my hair and smoke some cigarettes. JK, smoking is totally nasty.

3. Melanie
I actually just found out about Melanie a few weeks ago, so I'm in the early stages of "OH WOW! A NEW PRECIOUS SINGER TO LOVE! OH, GOD!" and just discovering everythang this lady has made.
My favvvvorite song so far is "Soul Sister Annie", and it's folk-y and rock-y and sounds like Woodstock purity to me. SING IT, GIRLFRIEND.

4. Sonny and Cher
Sonny and Cher are SO SO SO groovy. They're pure  '60s/'70s GOLD, and Cher is such a freaking goddess.
They sound like summer, and life, and late '60s pop ALL MIXED INTO ONE. Ugh, I love them.

And who cannot love this song and the Dum Dum Girls re-make?

And... I GOTTTTT YOUUUU BABEEEEE (of course).

Plus, Cher's fashion---
TO DIE FOR. Give me long flowing hair, golden dresses and mod-eye make-up any day, baby.

5.  The Undertones
I found The Undertones through Rookie back in summer, and OMG, THEY ARE SO RAD.
They're a Northern Ireland punk/new wave band from '70s/'80s, AND THEIR MUSIC IS AMAZING. They're is not all LOUD AND SMASHY punk (smashy punk is still awesome, guys) but rock-y and whip your head back and fourth and sing like a maniac-ish. It makes me want to dance and be cray and be a *REAL TEEN*, but then I remember I would rather eat Cheetos and go back to sleep.

Have you guys heard any good music lately? I need new muses! GIVE ME YUR SUGGESTIONS!  I will listen to every single one <3

P.S. This post was partially inspired by a post my baby gurl Sasssquatch did a while back. <3

Personal Style Icon: Majorettes

What is a majorette, you may ask?
"A majorette is a person doing choreographed dance or movement, primarily baton twirling associated with marching bands during parades."
Basically, majorettes are kick ass (I actually have never seen a real life majorette, so maybe you are one and you're reading this and you're like "It's not kick ass, trust me!" If so, TELL ME!! Educate me on the ways of the majorettes!) ladies who twirl batons and (quoting Wiki again here) "also twirl knives, fire knives, flags, light-up batons, and fire batons. They do illusions, cartwheels, and flips, and sometimes twirl up to four batons at a time."
LIKE, WHOA!! Isn't the coolest thing you ever heard of?!?!
I went to cheer-leading camp for 3 years when I was a little cutie baby, and LEMME TELL YOU, we did some crazy stuff, BUT WE DID NOT TWIRL FIRE KNIVES.
PLUS, majorettes are my personal style icons. THE BOOTS. THE SKIRTS. THE FUZZY HAT THINGS.

Hopefully you get as inspired by them as I am

  10. I want to be a writer when I'm older.
  11. I went to my first concert this summer.

 Everybody's Questions
*Since I was nominated four times, I thought answering 44 questions would be a bit CRAY. So I chose my favorite questions out of every person that nominated me's question list that !

Amy's Questions

 1. Why did you start a blog?
1. Why did you start a blog?

TAVVVVVIIIII!

One day, me and my brother were looking at The Style Rookie for the 9876542345678 time, and I had been talking about giving blogging another shot. My brotha was like "JUST GO FOR IT!", so I started this blog! Originally it was Lilacs & Ivy, and then it METAMORPHIZED into Psychedelic Daisy! <3
So, Tavi is really my entire inspiration for ERRYTHANG.

2. Is there anything you really regret doing this past year?

Hmmm... not severe regrets. I wish I would've worked a little harder, not procrastinated as much, kept in touch with my friends more, been more artistic, GENERALLY NOT BEEN AS LAZY, etc. It's actually been a great year, though <3 <3 <3

3. Who is your favourite music artist/band at the moment?

Not really an artist, but right now my OBSESH (for months and months and months now) are the Now and Then and Mermaids soundtracks <3 <3

Adelleda's Questions

4. What fictional character would be your best friend in real life?

This is definitely a TOUGH one, but I'mma go with my idol Tracy Turnblad. We'd do the Mashed Potato and rat our hair together. Oh, and Penny could would also be our other best friend, of course.

My baby <3

5. What is one piece of clothing you didn't buy that you really regret?

This beautiful vintage faux leopard fur coat on Etsy. It was about $70.00, which is actually cheap for a vintage faux fur jacket, but a little too steep for me :(((

6. Do you keep a diary as well as a blog?

Yessss! I am a prolific writer and have a TON on notebooks (mostly focused on poetry) and a main, central diary where I write my daily ~FEELZ~.

Britney's Questions

7. Unicorns or pegasi?

Unicorns for surrrreeee. Partially for this picture:

Partially because they are so gorgeous and perfect, partially for one of the best movies eva, The Last Unicorn, and partially because I'm almost 100% sure they really exist.

8. What is your favorite month of the year?

August! Not only is it MOI'S birthday, it's also such a pretty time of the year--- summer is winding down, and the days are warm and the nights are gorgeous.

9. If you had to choose one mystery in history to know the answer to, what would it be? (Odd question, I know, but I think about it a lot.)

This is SUCH a genius question, and I actually have no idea because I am OBSESSED with history and have too many moments, but I needed to post this to get everyone's minds turning!!

Angie's Questions

10. If you could only take one outfit with you to a deserted island, what would it be?

OMG THIS IS SO HARD. Probably my ~dream outfit~ of white heels, a faux leopard fur coat, and underneath I would wear some super cool floral '60s dress. If I'm on a deserted island (actually I almost am, so), I wanna be lookin' sweet!

Me lookin' fabuuuulous on a deserted island, which is actually just my head, Marie's body, and some Pleaser shoes.

11. What is your favourite quote?

That is so hard! But it's probably this one by Tavi... "Nothing is ever as good as the fantasy of it." I SO KNOW THAT BABY GIRL.
K, WE ALL KNOW WHY I NEEDED THIS PIC, WHICH IS CAUSE TAVI IS MY ULTIMATE GODDESS QUEEN/FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WORLD.

MY QUESTIONS

  1. What is your most prized possession?
  2. What if your favorite kind of dance (Tap dance, jazz, The Twist, Gangnam Style, etc.)?
  3. Who is your style icon?
  4. What if your favorite kind of pizza?
  5. What if the worst trend that happened when you were in middle school?
  6. Are you a feminist?
  7. Have you made any blog friends?
  8. What modern day celebrity annoys you the most?
  9. If you could wear one pair of shoes for the rest of your life, what would they be?
  10. If you could be an ice cream flavor, what would you be?
  11. Who is the most famous person you've ever met?

Strawberry Shortcake Meets Kurt Cobain: An Interview with Sasssquatch

HEEEEY GUYS (AND HAPPY NEW YEAR OMGZ)!
I've been thinking about new, interesting ways to spruce up this blog for a stellar new year. The answer? Interviews!
I'm gonna start interviewing some of my fave 'lil babes so we can all "ooh" and "ahhhhhhhh" over their radness while also finding out more about them!
My first interviewee: Sasssquatch!

I'm pretty sure Sasssquatch was born in a meadow filled with ice cream, fluffy bunnies, and the spikes you put on leather jackets, the daughter of a unicorn and Strawberry Shortcake. If you haven't already been crushing on her style since forever, lemme tell you: she's one of the most adorable (and definitely the sassiest) bloggers ever! She also just celebrated her two year birthday, and I got to interview her (partially) because of the occasion! Read the rest below and fall as much in love with her as I have <3

Who are you? How old are you? TELL US ABOUT YOU!
I am Caelan aka Sasssquatch. I turn 20 two after valentines day! I'm an Aquarius living on the island of Oahu, which yes, means I am a mermaid. I’m the youngest of four girls and I am a feminist studying journalism, fashion and women’s studies at the University of Hawaii!

If you could be an ice cream flavor, which would you be?
Strawberry ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.

Caelan took pictures of this outfit just for me!!! ISN'T SHE THE SWEETEST, CUTEST THING EVER?

Outfit Details:
Sweater: H&M (Lana Modeled it, HOLLA)
VestkLAWLdenae on Etsy, (by far the best Etsy purchase I've made thus far)
Dress: Forever21
Tights: Pretty Polly
Boots: Doc Martens

When did you start your blog? What got you into style blogging in the first place?
Sasssquatch.com was born December 24th 2010. I had a blog previously but what really got me into blogging was Chictopia, which I now don’t use anymore but also our goddess Tavi G! Not to mention as a 17 year old girl I had much too time on my hands and my love of writing and fashion made for the perfect combination.

What inspires your style?
Oh goodness, EVERYTHING. My three sisters, my grandmother who used to model fur coats, my best friends, Sofia Coppola, warm Sunday afternoons, childhood television shows, desserts, Japanese culture, and just my chameleon spirit that makes me want to evolve constantly.

What do you do when you're not blogging?
I work and I’m in school aka I’m boring.
If I’m not doing those I’m pantsless in my room watching Lizzie Mcguire.

How did you first become interested in fashion and style?
I never remember not being obsessed with fashion. As a preschooler I had my trademark outfit, a floral dress and pigtails and to be honest not much has changed.

Has blogging really changed your life?
Goodness yes, blogging has provided not only a comprehensive visual manifestation of my thoughts but also works as a time capsule and a portfolio for past outfits, posts and of course inspiration if I ever get in a rut.

Who would you name as your top 3 style icons?
Oh goodness that is unfair!!!
I’m gonna say my three sisters
3. Baby Spice
2. Helen Gurley Brown
1. Courtney Love
I wouldn’t be nearly as fashionable without them.

How would you describe your style in 5 words?
Strawberry Shortcake meets Kurt Cobain

What are your favorite books/movies/bands? Do they inspire your style?
Books: The Catcher in the Rye, The Bell Jar, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Looking for Alaska, Elliott Smith and the Big Nothing and of course, Little Women
Movies: Empire Records, The Virgin Suicides, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, The Royal Tennenbaums, Rushmore, (ALL WES ANDERSON FILMS), Little Women, Alvin and the Chipmunks Great Adventure and of course, Little Rascals
Bands: Bikini Kill, No Doubt, The Smiths, B*Witched, Spice Girls, Saves the Day, Simon & Garfunkle, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Third Eye Blind, Rilo Kiley, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Killers GAH THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.
My books, movie and music taste is full of what one would call “guilty pleasures” but I don’t think of it that way. I like what I like and that directly effect my style, I dress how I like and I unbashfully don’t care what anyone else thinks.

Taken by her friend Kate

What are your favorite blogs?
Oh gosh, I have too many to count
I’ll list my top 5
1.    Rookie Mag, duh
2.    Your blog is totally one of my faves
3.    Mermaidens
4.    Cupcake’s Clothes

What inspired you to dye your hair?
Well, I went to a strict all girls school from 6th grade to high school, so maybe I’m rebelling for all those years of hair color conformity.

What is your most favorite part about blogging?
Just being able to express myself through my words.
Also being able to discuss anything I want and of course just seeing all the beautiful posts and outfits that my favorite girls come up with.

From a post in December

What is your least favorite part about blogging?
Just the fact that its hard at first when you start out to make friends.
That and some people only comment so you comment back not because they actually like your content and that’s just a shame.

Anything else you'd like to leave us with?

Have a wonderful day, and PLEASE keep it sassy,
Xoxoxo
Sasssquatch

Didn't I tell you she was rad?! So, go forth, young ones, and follow the sassiest ways of Sasssquatch! You will never, ever, ever be sorry.

Thanks for reading, and look for more ~blogger interviews~ in the future!
